Hinge and Bracket Themed Weekends at ‘Bel Ombrage' 2010

Summer 2010

We would like to take the opportunity to introduce you to our ‘Hinge and Bracket’ themed weekends.

‘We’ are George Logan, formerly ‘Dr Evadne Hinge’ of the much-loved ‘Hinge and Bracket’ double act, and his partner, Luigi Perone, chef extraordinaire.

In 2004, some time after the death of Patrick Fyffe, who played the role of ‘Dame Hilda Bracket’, we moved from the UK to France, where we now run a luxury bed and breakfast establishment called ‘Bel Ombrage’.  It is located in the mediaeval town of Le Dorat, in the Limousin region of France.  Full details of our facilities can be found on our web site, www.belombrage.net

Two years ago, we decided to experiment with a new venture, that is, organising and running ‘Hinge and Bracket’ weekends.  We arranged four of these events in 2008, and a subsequent six in 2009.

We are in the course of planning our schedule for 2010, and have dates arranged for four weekends this year.   These will take place every two months, and we may add other dates if demand for places warrants it.

This year we plan to ‘theme’ our weekends more specifically, and the areas we have considered include:

·         A Gilbert and Sullivan weekend; guests will be encouraged to perform, if they wish to, and George will be happy to accompany them and to provide performance advice (if it is wanted!)

·         A Masterclass weekend in which George will give advice to amateur performers on interpretation and vocal performance

·         Hinge and Bracket weekend.  Talk would be on the careers of the two ladies, the famous names they have worked with and anecdotes of ‘life on the road’.

·         A Music Theatre weekend.

Any suggestions for further themes will be considered.

The weekends so far arranged are as follows:

July 9th to 12^th                              Gilbert and Sullivan weekend
September 10th to 13^th                  Masterclass weekend
November 12th to 15^th                         Hinge and Bracket weekend

As you will see, the weekends run from Friday until Monday.

We currently have availability for all weekends.

Friday Arrival of guests.  Snack lunch provided for those arriving before or at lunchtime. 7 pm               Welcome drinks with George and Louie

8 pm               A four-course dinner including wine (unlimited!) and coffee.

10 pm             A fun quiz based around the ‘theme’ of the weekend.

 

Saturday 10 am             Breakfast                         Rest of morning free for sight-seeing and leisure

1 pm               Lunch at one of our local restaurants, either ‘La Marmite’, ‘La Dent de Loup’ or ‘Le Café de la poste’

2 pm               A guided trip by car to one of the larger towns in the area, possibly Poitiers or Limoges.  For those not wishing to join the excursion, the afternoon is free for rest or leisure.

8 pm               Buffet dinner

9.30 pm         George and Louie will entertain you in their salon, with music by George on the piano.  Requests are gratefully received, and anyone wishing to sing will be beautifully accompanied.

 

Sunday 10 am             Breakfast

2 pm               Sunday roast lunch, 3 courses with wine and coffee.                         Afternoon free for leisure or hopefully sunbathing!

7.30 pm         A soiree to be held either at ‘Bel Ombrage’ (our bed and breakfast) or at one of our local venues, where our guests and friends will meet, and George will give an illustrated talk on the specialised theme of the particular weekend.  Light refreshments will be provided.

 

The cost of the weekends is €300.00 per person based on two people sharing

a double or a twin-bedded room.  This includes transport to and from our local airports (either Poitiers or Limoges) and all accommodation, meals and entertainment during your stay with us.  Not included are air fares (the prices and points of origin vary too much for us to factor this into the cost) and the cost of the excursion on Saturday afternoon.  This will vary with the number of people choosing to partake and the destination chosen, but should be around €20.00 a head..

 

For single occupancy, the cost is €400.00 per person.

 

Ryan Air and other companies fly to both Poitiers and Limoges from various UK airports.  In general, flights booked in advance can be very reasonable, while bookings near to the departure dates are more expensive.
